SHAREit was developed by Lenovo as a tool to send and receive files between devices at very high speeds. SHAREit can send any file without using any cables or data. It has claimed to garner over 600 million users from 200 countries since it was released.
SHAREit claims that it can transmit data at the speed of 20 Mbit/s or 2 Mbyte/s. But how does it transfer data so fast? SHAREit uses something called Wi-Fi Direct. What it means that it connects two phones in the same way that a phone connects to a wireless router.
All this takes place using TCP or Transmission Control Protocol. TCP is also used by phones and computers to connect to the internet. The receiving device acts as a router by switching on the hotspot on the phone, and the sender device serves as the device that sends the data to the router. The file to be sent is first broken down into small pieces called ‘packets.’ These packets are then sent using Wi-Fi Direct to the device that is receiving the data. When all the packets have been successfully received, the receiving device then joins all the packets and forms the original file once again.
Transmission Control Protocol is efficient at transmitting data because the receiving device can check for any corruption in data while receiving the packets. If one of the data packets is corrupted in any way, the receiving device requests the sending device to send that packet of data again. The sending device acknowledges this request and then sends that packet of data again. So, instead of having to send the whole file again, only a minute packet has to be resent. This saves a lot of time while transferring data from one device to another.
The best thing about SHAREit is that it is cross-platform. This means that Android devices can send data to computers and iOS devices and also receive data from them. Using SHAREit on different operating systems is easy thanks to the fluid and easy to use user interface.
On Android, the sender has to press the send button and then select the files to be sent. The receiver then presses the receive button on their phone. SHAREit will ask permission to enable the hotspot. The receiving phone will then appear on the sending device’s radar. Once the user clicks on the device, the transfer of the files will start.
The process of sending data between Android and iOS/Windows is a bit more complicated. Before you start reading the following guide, please make sure you have latest shareit apk downloaded and installed on your android phone.
How to Use ShareIT App for Sharing files between two devices
Step 1: The sender must first select the files to be sent and then press the ‘Next’ button.
Step 2: On the next screen, press ‘Connect to iOS/Windows Phone.’ The phone then will ask permission to start the hotspot on the device.
Step 3: Allow SHAREit and then go to the receiving phone’s Wi-Fi settings and connect to the Wi-Fi network that is being displayed on the sending phone.
Step 4: Now go to SHAREit app and press the ‘Receive’ button.
The transfer will now start. And the files will get transferred successfully.
How to Use ShareIt for PC App
Using SHAREit on PC is now quicker with the SHAREit PC app.
Step 1: Go to the official website and install the app. The process of connecting PC with Android, iOS and Windows Phone is the same.
Step 2: Both the devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Launch the SHAREit app on the computer or Mac. It will show a QR code.
Step 4: Now on your mobile device, start the SHAREit app. You must now open the navigation drawer. On Android, swipe from left to right and on iOS/Windows press the three dot menu or the three horizontal lines in the top left corner.
Step 5: In the navigation drawer, press ‘Connect to PC.’ It will now launch the camera.
Step 6: Now scan the QR code which is shown on your computer.
After you do that your phone will be connected to the computer, and you will now be able to send and receive files between your phone and computer.
